About Me

Hi! I’m Erin, a science writer and a full-time traveler. I’ve been traveling for more than 20 years — 6 continents, 71 countries. My first international trip was to Rome for spring break during my junior year of college; currently, I’m doing an 8-month around-the-world adventure.

My travel vibe at a glance:

  • I work full-time while I travel. My work has always been remote, so I’ve been doing the digital nomad thing since 2008.
  • I almost always travel solo. Occasionally, a friend or family member joins me, but most of the time, I’m by myself.
  • My travel style is “affordable comfort.” By keeping costs in check, I can work less and make the budget stretch farther. Of course, I do like a few splurges here and there — especially if they significantly increase comfort or convenience.
  • I’m all about slow travel. In my backpacker days, I moved every 3-5 days. Now, I like to stay in each place for a minimum of 2 weeks; ideally, a month. That way, don’t overdo the touristing — plus, I’m 41 now, and travel days are exhausting.
  • I prefer long-term travel. I’m not one for cruises, week-long vacations, or beach resorts; give me a few months in Central Asia over a week in the Bahamas any day.

Overall, I take a pretty relaxed approach to travel. In my 20s, I wouldn’t have dreamed of setting foot in a Starbucks or McDonald’s when I was out of the U.S. Now, I do whatever feels best. And sometimes, that’s sitting in Starbucks for a few hours with a big fat American-sized latte. (I hate tiny coffees, even if they’re delicious and artisanal. Give me a giant mug that requires two hands.)

I’m delighted that you’re here and thrilled to share my love of travel.
